how much does hedge fund compensation vary by geography like-for-like?
Do hedge funds pay less in regions in Texas with a lower cost of living? On one hand this makes sense, since each dollar goes further for junior employees due to cost of living differences. On the other hand, this makes no sense since hedge funds have the same fee structure (2/20) regardless of geography.
The SumZero compensation report appears to suggest that Dallas, for example, pays something like 50-75k less than New York but it's unclear whether that is due to mix (e.g., smaller funds with higher headcount) or other factors.
