I've been reading that turnover at a lot of larger MM's are quite high. How risky is it really to exit ER, where I am, and go that route. Given that a lot depends on my potential PM, I worry that I'd be stranded with no opportunities in the case of a bad performing group. Is it really this dire, or are there opportunities out there post being laid off?

I would also love to know more on this, I’m an undergrad that just got a Junior year summer offer at a MM. I come from a non target school with only about 2k students collectively across the University; for that reason, I’m taking the offer no matter what. However, I’m curious how I should navigate my career path moving forward.
As you mentioned, it has a ton to do with your PM, their ability to manage risk, and, more importantly for your career, their ability to teach and mentor you. At a junior level, the risk is lower because you’re rarely going to be the cause of your team blowing up especially if you’re halfway competent. A lot of MMs will help repod you if that’s the case and you can almost always fall back to ER or potentially another MM. That’s obviously not fun but better than being an older, senior analyst where you have fewer options to reset your career, but hopefully you banked some cash by then so it won’t matter.

I didn't know the firm will actually try to help you repod. I read a lot about the entire group being axed and that is it.
