Unsure about career starting point

Hello All, I am in an incoming undergraduate freshmen at a super target. I spent this past summer doing IB prep with networking (coffee chats, etc.) and technicals (learning DCFs, EBITA, LBO modeling, etc.) and have been really considering my career path out of undergrad.

Should I go for IB and transition into PE or a HF later or try to go directly for a mega PE firm/HF. For context, my school over the years has had numerous people go to firms like Blackstone and KKR right out of undergrad, but I am aware how hard that truly is. I plan to ramp up my studying to whats required for HF and PE work, but I am unsure/lost about the process for recruiting for those firms. I know my inquiry is super broad but any help would be greatly appreciated!
