insight on fundamental analysts at mms?

Does anyone have any insight on fundamental analyst roles at mms? Noticed that for cit sec all the fundamental analysts come from top (think HYPSM), so my first thought is it's pretty prestigious.

I'm curious as to what this role actually entails - is it more like S&T or quant or in the middle? Is this a better place to do SA/ start a career than a BB/EB? Also what is compensation progression as well as wlb?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, a fundamental analyst role at a middle market (MM) firm can be quite rewarding and challenging. It's a role that requires deep understanding of the financial markets, strong analytical skills, and the ability to make informed decisions based on a variety of factors.

In terms of the nature of the role, it's a bit of a mix between Sales & Trading (S&T) and Quantitative Analysis. You'll be expected to analyze financial data and market trends, make investment recommendations, and potentially work closely with the trading team.

As for whether it's a better place to start a career than at a Bulge Bracket (BB) or Elite Boutique (EB), that really depends on your career goals and personal preferences. MM firms can offer more exposure and responsibility early on, but BBs and EBs may offer a broader network and more prestigious brand name.

Compensation progression can vary widely depending on the firm, but generally, you can expect a competitive salary that increases as you gain more experience and take on more responsibility. Work-life balance can also vary, but in general, finance roles can be quite demanding.

Remember, these are just general observations. The specifics can vary greatly depending on the firm and the individual role. It's always a good idea to do your own research and speak to people who are currently in the role or have been in the past.
