Learning from a Failed Interview (Hotchkiss and Wiley)
Hi everybody - I recently went through interview processes for long only and long / short funds earlier this year (3 years in PE). I ended up landing a long / short summer internship which I'll be starting this summer but I can't stop thinking about an interview I had with Hotchkiss and Wiley. The first round was purely technical. I imagine none of the questions were that difficult in hindsight but I really struggled with them in the moment and would love to round up my weak spots.
They were basically around things like pricing a stock based on dividend and growth, comparing yields across the capital structure, determining whether a growth initiative for a company is worth spending money on, comparing companies in the same industry with different growth and FCF profiles, etc. I really wish I wrote down the questions immediately after my interview but the specifics that tripped me up evade me.
However, I'm curious whether anybody went through that interview process (or something that sounds similar) and has any ways to prepare for this, whether it be books, podcasts, or anything else? The typical guides that I've historically studied (banking and PE) don't necessarily cover these topics well.
