Leaving BO Ops - Need Insight

Hi all,

Long time lurker on this forum and I've finally come around to register as I want to seek some insight regarding my current situation. About 5 months ago I took an ops analyst position (compliance/legal) at a large (and ever-growing) HF in MA right outside of Boston, I jumped on the ops train as I thought it would be a great entry into the HF world - which I've always wanted to be in since graduating in 2015.

That being said, I now absolutely loathe the position. I've been trying to make the best out of the situation but its truly starting to take a toll on me. Doing menial tasks in Excel all day, running macros, and completing reports with no management or interaction with other people is just not for me. Coworkers are good people, but nobody really has the drive to accomplish much aside from doing their day to day. Prior to relocating from the west coast, I worked at a HNW PWM group (flame suit on) and truly miss the interaction/projects with my fellow peers and also the clients on a day to day basis.

I'm strongly considering leaving ops to jump to a startup I have an offer for and try something a little riskier. If it doesn't work out, so be it - I am prepared - but I really would like to attempt something a bit more entrepreneurial especially at an age young enough I can afford to.

My questions for you monkeys is - how bad would it be to leave ops less than 5 months in? I believe this was a worthwhile experience and I wouldn't shy away from including it on my resume etc. as I've learned a lot about both myself and the industry but is this move going to blackball me for the future? Not that I would want to move back to ops ever again...but I've never had a job I stayed at for less than a year. I've talked to many in the firm and BO to FO is not a common occurrence at all therefore I am very hesitant to stick it out much longer and surely will not be there for the standard 18-24 months. Thanks in advance.
