L/S Sophomore Internship
I understand a few do internships for UGs. Know of a few alumni analysts/partners at Maverick, SurgoCap, D1, SPC, Farallon and Elliott, but do any of them offer internships for sophomore summers (i am a freshman). Heard other good names like Holocene. How does one go about getting these? I’ve come into college with 0 connections in HF excluding my school, and I feel it’s too early to even attempt to network. Essentially want to do an IB gig, and aiming ideally to do a 2+2 with PE Farallon does a pitch comp that feeds directly into their summer, but the only people ik of there from my school did EB stints. So, there aren’t really any people I can directly reach out to ask about this. And that process is exclusively fast tracked for sophomore participants. One other thing…I’ve seen an unholy amount of freshman/sophomore analysts at Elliott and Coatue. I assume this is purely nepo?
Just spam a bunch of stock pitches to every fund you like and be well read and personable. If you want a more structured process go to one of the pod shops programs. I never joined a club or anything personally and didn’t know what a hedge fund was until senior year…I got kind of lucky lol. And yes those are all nepo.

Who do you send to - analysts, higher-ups, or HR?
Founders most likely, the only work they’re doing is finding new, inexperienced undergrads from nontargets lol
But seriously lol, probably analysts if they’re alumni or a mutual friend, or HR.

FYI I’m pretty sure Farallon hiring for sophomore summer has finished already. I would find a list of L/S funds (esp founded by those from your school) and send in pitches. Include a 2-page write up and the model (esp. the model- I care a lot about seeing how you’ve broken out the drivers).
