Macro Analyst at pension fund to hedge fund
Hi Guys!
New here so apologies if in the wrong forum. I currently work as a Macro Analyst at a Pension Fund, how easy/hard is it to transition to a macro hedge fund? As, I've seen many people go from sell side to hedge fund, but I've been fortunate to get on the Buy-side right away- but weirdly enough i dont see many people go from pension fund to hedge fund? Even though the work I am doing is pretty much the same as what you'd do as a hedge fund macro analyst? Anyone made this transition? would love to hear some anecdotes.

It’ll be difficult, but not impossible I would imagine. I’m not very familiar with the work at a pension fund but I would imagine at the very least, the mandate is completely different. There isn’t really a ‘typical’ macro hedge fund so it’s hard to generalize, but they tend to be more trading/short term focused than I would assume a pension fund would be. However, I’m sure part of the reason that the move doesn’t happen much is that people at pension funds aren’t interested in hedge funds and people at hedge funds aren’t interested in pension funds, ie the types of people are generally different.
