Managing Information Flow as an analyst

Quick question... I am curious how you veteran analysts at HF's have learned to monitor information flow? As someone who aspires to break into this space, I want to follow the "best practices".

I am interested in the macro HF side and understand that knowing what is going on all over the world is imperative to generating alpha...but how do you decide what sell-side stuff you want to read?

Besides answering the above question, would you mind sharing your process for managing news flow?

“He was very responsive and prepared for the meeting. He actually read the JD, resume, and looked up linkedin which sometimes other mentors doesn't actually go over those to prepare things beforehand. I appreciate his direct comments I think it saved time and actually helped me to know exactly where to improve. I also appreciated him admitting if he doesn't know about specific HF strategy. Only thing I'd suggest for him is probably sending actionable key takeaways after the meeting because other mentors did and that was very helpful. ”
