P72 Academy
Asking for updated views as the past threads are quite dated:
Broad commentary on the 10-month program (experience, pay, day-to-day, etc)
How has placement into pods been over the past few years?
How much exposure do analysts get to senior PMs and decision-makers?
I believe that they take candidate in 3 cohorts/intervals of the year. Is there any differences in the experience and/or placement opportunities?
Does the program encourage independent idea generation, or is it more focused on following a set process?
What is the interview process like to join a pod after the Academy and how much power do you have to pick your ideal sector/coverage?
How would you describe the culture at Point72?
For those you have completed the Academy, how did you enjoy your experience, do you feel like it prepared you well, and would you do it again?
Thanks!
Mix of assignments/industry pitches/stock pitches/rotations.
Analyst exposure to PMs varies by team; there's no real baseline, and it depends on how each team functions. Generally, senior PM is a title at Millennium, not P72. Also, in the academy, you're not an analyst.
The entire program and job are around independent idea generation; there isn't really a set process to do this.
I've seen interviews + Academy just lumping people onto pods for rotations in some offices.
Great training, but the worst year of my life.
Best seat to maximize comp if you're actually good at publics. Not really much culture, but nowhere else in the industry can you get this mentorship / training (every other seat, you have to already be great at investing).
Millennium and Citadel also have undergraduate training programs.
Marshall Wace and Balyasny have programs for sellsiders too.
Thanks — Of the programs for those after undergrad, which one is the best for experience/training?
I don't know I haven't done them
.
Thanks — I assume that it was “the worst year of your life” because it was working banking like hours with ~2x the stress?
I know it likely varies, but are those rotations more permanent or just for a handful of quarters?
And putting aside all of the marketing, what is a rough % of the recent Academy grads that have become FT pod analyst at P72?
I don't know the current %'s. My year, virtually everyone got placed.
Rotations can become permanent if the PM wants you on the team.
