Thoughts on Soroban?

Are they generalist shop? What kind of org structure are they - does Eric call the shots, or do they have Sector Heads?

Any thoughts on culture, performance, pay is appreciated. Already listened to his podcast on ILTB.

Tks.

Do you mind elaborating on why their style is a dying breed? Eric came up through GS and TPG Axon, am interested in why Soroban is still around while other funds from the same pedigree an background are gone, i.e. TPG Axon.

He blew up TPG Axon, started soroban after that

Had great run, good marketer, big ego, gathered a lot of AUM and big reputation, levered long, great way to get rich

If you saw the inside of a lot of these well known HFs you would never give any of them money

Have to blame someone for mistakes, see it often when senior people leave huge funds even if not said out loud, no reason they would leave if doing well and would need a huge new launch to get paid equivalent $

If senior partner from prominent fund leaves to start his own thing, probably 50% chance was pushed out for losing money

Co-founder / partner you're probably referring to who started other fund is known in industry for being a dummy

Brand name and pedigree matters a lot with LPs though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
