Undergrad HF Opportunities (US/UK)

There are plenty of threads that cover the topic of HF intern recruitment, but there's not a single one that explicitly states the places that offer internship opportunities for undergrads in the US/UK. I thought maybe people would be willing to share their insights and help create a comprehensive list of places that do consider interns.

Known to do/to have done internships:

Bridgewater Associates
Citadel Investment Group
AQR
Man Group
Bain Capital - Sankaty Advisors
D.E. Shaw
KKR (included because they did PE internships, but not clear whether with KAM)
RWC Partners
Graham Capital Management
Liongate Capital Management (FoHFs London)
Goldman Sachs Investment Partners
BlackRock's HFs

I'm sure there are plenty more. Additions?

There is a thread also going about Sankaty hiring undergrad students also, would anyone care to shed some light on what it would be like to start at Sankaty right out of school?

Any idea how competitive hiring is for Sankaty?

Getting any hedge fund position out of undergrad is very competitive just because of the small size of the firms. Even the largest HFs have 1000 people while JP Morgan has over 70,000 in its investment bank alone.

wow nobody new that, thanks for contribution!

And of these 70k vast majority is back office, there's less than 10good banks and possibly a hundred or more hedge funds. Getting a gig at a 100m aum no name fund will be less competitive than FO at banks and securing the role will be less a matter of pedigree and much more networking driven.

That said yes starting at a top well known fund is much more competitive than banking.

Are some of these even realistic to get into unless you have a degree from an ivy or a top 5 finance/business school? I'm looking at all the names (me coming from a non-target) and I'm just going down the list...nope, nope, nope, nope.

Checked AQR's campus recruiting. Harvard, MIT, UChicago, and UPenn.

I received a HF offer out of undergrad, $30bn+ and not based in the US. I can assure you 95% of the offer came from connections, 4% from my willingness to learn and take whatever I can get my hands on and 1% from my knowledge of markets.

In any case, by the time I applied I had already interned at a different $25bn+ HF and had summered as an SA at a BB in M&A.

End story: pedigree needed? Yes, absolutely. But you're not getting a job unless you know someone/get introduced and know your shit cold. My college is a target but this wasn't very relevant throughout the interviewing.

Edit: My HF is on the OPs list.

On a related note, I'm quite certain Och-Ziff don't offer internships at all/take undergrads for FT. Source: I have two close connections high up at the fund and I did try recruiting with them.

So either 1) It is a lie or 2) The kid had mad connections. I doubt the kid was so good they just had to hire him.
