I’ve seen culture destroyed by number 2’s. Some times the #1 is so busy that he just doesn’t have time to deal with or worse even notice the bullshit created by his #2. Plus if #2 is pulling in good money and results for the firm, it’s hard for the #1 to intervene at the risk of impeding short term profits over longer term culture.

Plus if the #1 is thinking about an exit then why should he care about the long term destruction to the firm culture as long as he gets paid? Not suggesting it’s the altruist thing to do, but it’s the rational thing to do from a selfish and easy road mindset.

Whatever it is, I for one look forward to the inevitable intern threads that will pop up asking about comp/culture/career trajectory/ranked vs MMs as soon as it's announced.

And instead of people actually discussing the mentioned topics it will turn into a debate of MM vs SM

Blackstone to NFL analyst is a pretty baller move tbf

LP here. Raising 5 yards is super hard. Even Bobby Jain barely raised 5 yards and that was former co-CIO of MLP in a market that was starved for multi manager pod shops. And that was after he raised a bunch of it from the Middle East and they totally took a pound of flesh in exchange for that capital.

I used to do Asia-Pacific PE (kind of like FoF). Now I do something else but happy to try and answer questions on that stuff.

Pound of flesh and Middle East tends not to end well...

Why do random WSO users type with such confidence on things they don’t know anything about. Unless you work at Viking or know Justin Walsh how can you make a statement with such certainty?
