Working at a HF without Calc
I am a High School junior interested in working at a HF, I have picked this up over the last year. I have always been good in math but chose to not keep going with calculus, instead I am taking Data Science and AP stats. Is is possible to work at a HF without going into calculus and having Data Science, AP stats and Computer Science under my belt. Any input would be very appreciated.
If high school calculus is an issue for you, this might not be the right career path to pursue.
HF firms primarily hire quants/math/programming heavy candidates for their roles?
Not necessarily, but struggling with high school calc isn’t a great sign
if you want to do non quant/fundamental investing, then there is no issue, as most finance/econ majors in college don't take calc. If you want to do quant, then still no issue, as you can take calc in college or possibly avoid it as a comp sci major..
Your choice of courses in high school may matter for your eventual college acceptance but it won't for your career. No HF is going to care whether you took calc in highschool or not.
Here I thought that most Econ majors at 4-years requires Calc to some extent.
Most HF only care about the target schools they recruit from?
School I went to did a more straightforward/intro calc course for econ majors than requiring them to take the same calc that math majors would. I can't speak to what other schools require.
If you are not a quant it’s probably fine. Much of the math is literally the basic four. Addition subtraction multiplication and division. Now you might have to be fast about it at times or often but that isn’t calculus. Good luck
Is calc slang for calculator? Def going to need one at HF
