How to prepare for Junior Assistant Portfolio Manager role?
I managed to secure a role as Junior Assistant Investment Portfolio Manager straight out of a Finance degree. I guess my enthusiasm/theoretical knowledge of financial markets won the HR person and she offered me the position. However, I never worked in the industry and feel a bit over my head. I am an advanced Excel user, good with financial modelling and VBA but do not have any practical experience in managing a portfolio of securities... I have 6 weeks until i start the job and was wondering if you could give me some advice on what I could do to prepare more for it. What books or courses to attend in the meantime. I was told that I would do a lot of equity research, stock selection, create reports on the macroeconomic outlook for managers, generate investment ideas backed up by strong research etc. Any advice would be appreciated.
