Life Science cancer research

What is the best way to enter into the life science market? I just saw a new cancer research company get listed a few weeks ago and I am interested in covering it as an analyst. My only issue is how do I create financial models on this company with little to no experience in the Life Science vertical. I know their medical success is worthy of market review.
