Do it. Put 5 million in a conservative RE asset and live off the rent. 20k cash a month should be enough even if you have kids.
I wouldn't retire because I don't think it's healthy. Maybe kick things down a notch to 20 - 40 hours a week and focus on what you enjoy doing...and maybe that's something philanthropic in nature.
my wife just told me we need 30 mil to retire which is nuts. we live a middle class lifestyle.
What does your expense load look like? Does your wife work? What kind of cash flow or assets do you have? $30mm is a lot....
yes thats alot of dough. mortgage is 4k, kids expenses about 2k/month. wide is a dermatologist but not working.
I posted on your other thread. $10 million is a lot to support that lifestyle. And going from $10 million to $30 million could be doable but you wouldn’t be retiring anytime soon. Maybe she should be working if she doesn’t want to retire until you are at $30 million?
she is happy not working and homeschooling our kids. hopefully oir kids be will well adjusted contributing members of society.
What's her concern all about? She's worried about some adverse event happening or recession or just not being able to support the same lifestyle if you scale back at work?
That would be the conversation worth having to me - living life based on what some blog says definitely ain't it.
