3 Years in a Non Target

I currently attend George Mason University as a Freshman. I recieved 32 credits before I started due to AP and Dual Enrollment courses in high school. Because of this, I will only attend college for 3 years, as most of my gen ed classes are already credited. Because of this, I realize the average 4 year plan is very different for me. I'd like some advice on what I should do next year to advance myself to an IB Analyst position after University. Should I just try transfer to UVA/Georgetown this summer and try to land an internship the next summer after which would be my last summer before my senior year. Or try to get an internship in a non IB field like wealth management and leverage it into an IB internship for the next summer? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

If I were in your situation, I would transfer to UVA or Georgetown, and I give UVA the edge due to being a slightly more popular target and lower tuition. I broke into IB from a non-target, so it’s definitely possible; however, it is quite difficult and will usually require a lucky beak or two.

Having graduated in three years myself, props to you for knowing IB is what you want to do. I didn't know until my senior year (3rd year). I would agree with the above statement that you should transfer to UVA/Georgetown if this is financially feasible for you. With less opportunities for internships in between summers, see if you can get any sort of finance internship during the school year - I did a wealth management/financial planning internship that definitely boosted my resume that was short on experience due to only having three years of school. Best of luck.

I had the same exact situation. I ended up transferring into a target school and am taking 12 credits per semester to slow down my graduation date. Doing this should delay ur graduation by a semester which would help u recruit with the current 2023 class
