3.8 GPA From Target Cooked for Top Firms? - Serious

Yes I know the title sounds extreme but this is a serious question so please humor me. I am a rising sophomore with a 3.8 GPA at a solid target (think UChi/Dart/Cornell/Duke/NW/Brown) and am aiming for EB (not RX) or buyside for summer 2027. I recently spoke to an upperclassman who went through recruiting that said that a 3.9+ was pretty much needed for top EBs / BBs and megafunds out of undergrad.

Can anyone shed some light on this? I know that I'm tweaking a little but I want to realistically know if I have a shot at EB/top buyside for SA 2027 with a 3.8. Will I still get through resume screens? Sorry if this post comes off as out of touch, I'm not too familiar with recruiting yet so I just would like advice on how to position myself. Thanks!
