The Airbnb hosts are actual cretins. All of them have properties listed as available to rent for the dates I wanted (my 10 weeks) and when you message them they all want you to wait until the last minute so they can Jack up prices, or they pretend to not know if it’ll be available. Mao was right about landlords bro.

For studio/1BD

$2500-$3k for Jersey

$3500-$4k for less desirable parts of Manhattan (ex: FiDi)

$4-$5k for decent apartments in desirable parts of Manhattan (although you may be able to find ones of lower quality in the $3500-$4k range).

To put all of this into perspective the NYU dorm is only $2200/month and it’s inside Manhattan.

$5500 is about the monthly rent for a non studio / non gross 1 bedroom in NYC these days, let alone short term, furnished, for the whole summer and in a decent area like NYU is. Shit is crazy.

No broker is going to represent you for short term to respond to the other comment, you're on your own between finding a sublet, Airbnb, or NYU. highly recommend checking out NYU sublet groups or Sweats and the City FB group for sublets. But $5500 is ~$2200.a month which is going to be very hard to come by for a furnished short term place.

Check out the pricing on Sonder / Blueground - corp type Airbnbs that are probably more reliable than the shitshow of NYC Airbnbs (back story there - was illegal for a long time, now cannot legally rent for under 30 days, so Airbnb never really caught on here)
