85k prorated?

Ok so I’m trying to figure out how much I can budget for rent for my SA gig. I have a 85k prorated salary for 8 weeks. So is my math correct for 85k/52 = ~1600 and then multiplied by 8 for a total of ~12000. Minus like 3k in taxes for 9k.

Can I afford a $2000 per month apartment?

Thanks.

I've gotten away with 1200-1600 in the past with roommates which made the experience much better imo. 2k is a bit much especially with the rental market in NYC - you don't need to be spending that much at all. Say you net 9k income. Minus 4k in rent is 5k. You'll probably spend a few thousand on food, travel, entertainment, miscellaneous stuff leaving you very little money to save (assuming that you value that highly over the experience). Also, it's probably likely that you're going to be virtual again so you can save a lot more by not having to deal with 4k getting blown on rent.

In that case go for it. I'm assuming Texas is basically already open and come summer there should be a bunch of things to do with the weather being better.

What are you renting through/where are you renting? I'm in Houston over the summer as well, but unsure where I can sublet for the amount of time I need.

My bank has confirmed we’ll be in person in Houston and looking at $2600 total for 2 months rent.
