A Day in the Life at JPM & Goldman Sachs - How I learned to love/hate Business Insider Articles

This has been bothering me for some time now and I didn't want to say anything at first but a similar "hit" article came along the way and now my BS radar is on high alert.

We all know Business Insider (BI) has a penchant for resurrecting old articles, sometimes in the form of pseudo new articles, for click-bait to generate ad-dollars. This is the pattern observed from their Facebook feeds.

JPM Chase Intern Life

Original culprit [3.7mil views as of JAN17]: "This is what a day in the life of a JPMorgan intern is like" by Michael Bird

New Hellspawn [960k views as of JAN17]: "This is what a day in the life of a JPMorgan intern is like" by Business Insider (didn't even feel like giving Bird anymore credit for his picture book!)

Goldman Sachs Tech Analyst Life

Meet Samira with a Minion Toy on her Desk [1.5mil views as of JAN17]: INSIDE GOLDMAN SACHS: This is what a day in the life of a technology analyst is like

Okay... A couple of things I've noticed:

  • Gender equality theme (both candidates are female)
  • Lots of smiling going on by the individual
  • Lots of smiling co-workers and managers
  • Google like accomodations (Yoga? Bro...)
  • Lot more smiling going on by random people
  • Millennial focused
  • Lots and lots of pictures (more so than the regular Dr.Seuss articles that BI churns out these days)

Aside from the obvious that BI is now hiring from the Children's Novel would-be authors, what else do you guys notice that's a little odd with the way these two companies are portrayed through the Intern and Tech Analyst positions?

Since when did the 100 hour WallStreet grind become a tale of joy and jubilation?

Thoughts?

Hmmmm

I mean both the GS chicks look to be working back office jobs, so no surprise they seem happy. The JPM girl is in equity sales..can't imagine she is grinding thaat hard.

What do you expect though? You think major investment banks are going to let some hack site publish an article showing a baggy-eyed 23-year old M&A banker talk about the pitchbook he just spent all night updating? If a bank the likes of GS/JPM is letting any journalist through their doors, that journalist is going to see nothing but meticulously crafted propaganda.

Also BI is just Buzzfeed for people who think they are too intelligent/mature to read Buzzfeed.
