Advice

Hello, I am recruiting for SA 2022 IB. On Monday I received an offer from a MM. I am a diverse, "semi-target" candidate.

The company gave me 2 weeks to decide.

I am participating in the GS Possibilities Summit and I am waiting to hear back if I get a hirevue.

I would accept the MM because I genuiely like the company, but I feel like I can land an offer at a more "prestigious" bank. I really like the experience I have had at GS.

My questions are:

  1. From those that have done the Possibilites Summit at GS, how is the process? Do I have a good shot if I know my technicals?

  2. I don't think I even want to do PE after IB. I am thinking of corporate development. Should I press my luck and go for BB or take this MM offer at a bank that was a fairly good "name" on the street.

  3. Is it inappropriate to ask for more time to decide?

Thank you! I am sorry if these questions seem juvenile. I am new to the whole IB world and just trying to figure all this out.

i was in something similar with a top mm bank and an EB “early insight weeks” the EB recruiter was actually honest and told me that they have already got a lot of their summer analysts already but could try to get me a spot. i ended up taking the mm internship offer and didn’t regret it. did it for a summer, got a full time return offer and leverage that to most EBs and BBs and got a good amount of offers for full-time. The same EB I networked with to get the insight week was one of my first full-time offers. You definitely have a good shot but having IB experience is so much more solid than just knowing technicals anyone can memorize that shit. If you feel like you want to renege you can but I’d say be careful some bankers are pricks. Just make sure you get experience in the long run don’t put yourself in jeopardy.
