Advice on M&A

Hi all,

I'm about to begin a Trainee program at a European IB in their M&A team. My recruitment process was for another division but some problems came up and the recruiters asked if I wanted to join the M&A desk - which I accepted. I don't really know much about M&A so I spent too much time downloading pdf copies of books that I think are completely useless because I know I'll probably end up doing technical stuff, to begin with. On that note, would anyone like to share some tips/advice on what I should focus on/learn to master right off the bat (I accept jokes too)? I have an MSc in Finance so it's not like I don't know what I'm doing - I'm trying to boil down the scope of the work + knowledge needed so I don't waste time.

Thanks :)
