Am I fighting an uphill battle, and how can I win ?

I recently landed a IB internship on a FIG team. I was super excited because it was exactly where I wanted to go. However, I was looking over the other accepted interns and noticed all of them had prior FIG experience. Now I’m wondering how can I stand out around a bunch of people already ahead of me?

When I say experience I mean one of two things either school clubs in FIG or former internships.

So, how to I attack this? How can I try and mend the gap as much as possible ?

They may have FIG experience but may be awful. Dont let it worry you, it’s an internship. More impressed by someone who goes from 0 to 70% understanding that someone going from 60 to 75% if that makes sense

Honestly, this is probably a better sign than you think, because you got the spot without the FIG background, which means they clearly saw something they liked in you beyond just resume boxes. A lot of people start ahead on paper, but once the internship begins that gap closes fast, because what matters is who learns quickly, stays sharp, and is easy to work with. I’d spend the time now learning FIG basics, reading deals, and understanding why banks and insurance companies are valued differently so you can hit the ground running. In a few weeks nobody will care who had the club title first, they’ll care who’s actually good.
