If you want to stay in the distressed / SS world, A&M hands down. Probably the pure play restructuring name, and executional heavyweights. Also amazing comp. Only downsides are that that prestige doesn't perfectly travel outside RX, and less "wall street gloss". It's becoming much more recognized outside of the distressed space nowadays but still. One point of reference, the firm that I'm at has a SS group and would say ex-A&M people are one of the top targets we look for. Also not purely investor type work, they've got a reputation for being mercenary operators.

Jeff is solid, but I wouldn't say market defining. And like u mentioned, more UCC / creditor side. Clear tier below the elite or very good RX shops. But, the brand travels better outside RX because they have a full service IB offering and tbh the Jefferies brand is more widely understood outside RX

TLDR, choose A&M if u want to be elite within restructuring, care abt technical credibility > brand gloss and r ok with being less shiny outside finance circles. Choose Jeff if u want optionality, care abt how non-RX people perceive your background and want a more traditional IB trajectory.

On a separate note, what do you think about A&M Private Equity Performance Improvement vs Jeff IB in one of their strongest coverage groups?

Have early career offers from both and very torn between them. How would you say either are perceived in industry and is there a clear difference in optionality / skillset that I’d build?

Both very respected, but PEPI is by far stronger for ops exits. Jeff IB is obviously much better suited for investing exits. You will make great connections at both. In terms of optionality, both give you different types. Jeff will set you up better for roles involved in identifying value (investing), PEPI sets you up better for roles involved in creating value (operational).

Assoc. 3 is pretty accurate, Jeff IB is better for investing and PEPI is better for ops. Obviously it's not impossible to go to deal team from PEPI, but it's an uphill battle. PEPI is a very, very respected group though, don't get me wrong.

What first user said. A&M if you want to stay in RX world, and Jeff if not sure which transactional/operational focus you want to work in long term.
