Analyst estimates Excel template

Hi all,

At my last internship, I often had to do Side-By-Side analysis for pitches. Usually there was a handful of "favorite peers" that I'd pull analyst estimates on for a variety of metrics (Revenue, EBITDA, EBITDA margin, ect.) The rub was that, of course, we had to cherry pick estimates that made that peer look best. Usually the associate on our team would stipulate that we only log estimates from 3-5 banks/research houses (for example, "only take estimates from the sell-side reports from Credit Suisse, MS and JPM")

Anyway I kept track of any and all possible metrics in a special spreadsheet such that I'd have them already prepared and ready to load-in to the pitch deck, should the MD/VP randomly decide add/swap out one metric for another. So there's, say, 20-30 possible metrics across 3-5 research teams across 2-3 years + 1-3 quarters of the current year. At the time I'd never done this task before, nor had I spoken to anyone that had. I developed my own template which I thought kept the estimates fairly well organized. One day, the analyst insisted on poring through what I'd made, and TLDR basically ripped me a new one for the "counter-intuitive" layout.

Does anyone have experience with this specific task? Is there a best practice for keeping track of these estimates? Excel models? Templates?

Thanks in advance for your experience/wisdom/advice.
