I think it generally means that the analyst is given heads up that they will be fired down the line, and that they should start looking for a job. It’s a way to give the analyst time to find a job and “quit on their own terms” before being terminated by the firm.

If they stayed, I imagine they would get fired after that grace period.

They will try to fire you for just cause. Think twice before taking that soda for the road home at 2am…

Funniest

It typically occurs when a strapping young lad transgresses the Marxist, liberal dogma pushed by the global leftist elites. Common offenses include not recycling, eating red meat, using gendered language (dude, man, mankind, fireman) and/or speaking openly about heterosexuality. These dark, shadowy paramilitary organizations (Think: Soros Management, Pershing Square, Al-Qaeda, thebrofessor, Antifa, Don Lemmon, Ozymandia) will stop at nothing to steal our country out from under us. One by one straight, white, heterosexual analysts will be pushed out and replaced with transgender, blue-haired NPCs. Humanity as we know it is under deep attack from the left.

Stay strong lads!

Controversial

Lol, save it baldy. We all know you're in with Hunter Biden & the Clinton Family. You use your position as a trusted investment advisor to push subversive, regressive ESG protocol on susceptible, retail investors. How would your clients feel if they knew you were using their retirement savings to fund Critical Race Theory, abortion and hormonal castration medicine for transgender youth????? You habitually sell out mainstream America to the global, elitist left with no recourse and then wax poetic on WSO as though you're some type of moderate, centrist pragmatist. The reality is you would sell America out from under the common-man in exchange for a 100 basis point management fee.

Disgusting. Do your clients know you care more about saving the sea-turtles and polar bears than you do about their returns???

I've been had

all of my slams of ESG were really just a cover up for my secret strategy of forcing all of my clients into beyond meat or impossible foods

all of my adam smith, hayek, and john stuart mill books are a mirage for my love of central planning, karl marx, and daddy gummint

my monogamous heterosexual marriage with a cisgender woman is painful because I'd really like to be a genderless pansexual fairy without genitalia

my vote for trump was really a sideshow to my undying love for hilary clinton and barack obama

my stoic musings are really just a way for me to gain followers so I can secretly convince everyone to eat bugs in their pods while the new world order takes over

my membership to concealed carry usa and gun ownership are really just a way to infiltrate and disrupt these organizations so that daddy gummint is the only one with the guns

my collection of thomas sowell novels are really just a distraction from my love of nicole hanna jones, crt, and ta-nahasi coats

HOW DID YOU FIND OUT

Ignoring whatever is going on up above...

Extremely rare for an analyst to be formally pushed out unless they are fired for some immediate reason - insider trading, sexual harassment, etc. They will usually just get a very low bonus and no associate offer. If you're quite bad at your job but still showing up and getting stuff done, you're not getting pushed off.

If an analyst is truly terrible the bonus will be $0, but you would have to try pretty hard to be this bad... being unresponsive and doing very little work.
