Analysts/Associates: What Annoys You During Coffee Chats

I have done a good amount of coffee chats, and I am about to start doing a lot more over the summer. So I want to know what some of the worst things someone could do that instantly make you want to leave the meeting.

Genuinely asking because I want to avoid making the same mistakes myself.

A few that come to mind.

One guy kept asking to see those cannons. Weird.

Other one ordered a tall boy at 9am in the morning and slammed it. Safe to say we gave him a referral.

Would just be sure to ask more questions and minimize trying to boast about your accomplishments. No one really cares about some analysis you did or some pitch that worked out.

Also, keep politics/activism out of it. I had someone before go on and on about how it’s our duty to save the environment / our generation’s burden , etc etc - really off putting stuff tbh

Don't use AI to come up with your questions about a banker's coverage group, it's very obvious to anyone with an ounce of experience with the industry when you do. Better would be to use Ai to inform yourself then ask your own intelligent questions.

Also if you're from my college, I do always like hearing about how things are going so if we were in the same clubs / major / frat then talk about that.
