investing in structured products?
I would assume structured assets such as RMBS, CMBS, ABS...... Pretty much the "___BS" product:)
Whether they are buying to invest/trade or whether they are buying to originate is something, I do not know. Essentially buying the loans/product......assuming risk, pool together and ship off to rating agencies to rate so they can rate and then Goldman can ship it off to investors and collect that spread.
I think you're confusing people because it's not formally referred to as a group - it's either "Americas Special Situations Group - Structured Investing" or European, Asian, etc)
So it's buying structured products to invest.
Not to be confused with "Structured Investments Group" which is the originate, structure, distribute to clients in S&T.
