Anyone have an insurance model or some resources?

I have an interview coming up at a boutique FIG advisory shop so I've been trying to learn about the different parts of the sector. I've found some good info on banks but haven't really come across anything comparably good / helpful for insurance companies. Does anyone have a model or primer that they can pass along for either P&C or Life? Thanks.

Hey there! It sounds like you're gearing up for an exciting opportunity in the FIG advisory space. While I don't have a specific insurance model to hand over, I can certainly guide you towards some resources that might help.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, there's a thread titled "Part 1: Insurance 101" that breaks down how insurance works. It's part of a mini-series aimed at explaining different aspects of the insurance industry. This could be a great starting point for you to understand the basics.

In terms of financial modeling, Wall Street Oasis offers a range of resources. There are free financial modeling lessons taught by experienced private equity pros and bulge bracket investment bankers. These lessons cover financial statement modeling, DCF, M&A, LBO, Comps, and Excel Modeling. While these may not be insurance-specific, they can certainly help you brush up on your overall modeling skills.

Remember, the model for insurance is simple: many pay for the losses of the few. Everyone that is part of an insured group contributes. Understanding this principle can help you when it comes to modeling for insurance companies.

Good luck with your interview!
