Applying to FT analyst roles as a first-year

Keeping this short. I currently work as a first year analyst in a transaction advisory type role and want to eventually make the switch to front office. I've come across a couple of positions looking for people to start full-time in 2026 after they graduate. Do you guys think that I would be eligible to apply to these type roles? I'm more than happy to start off as a first year analyst.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it seems that applying to full-time analyst roles as a first-year in a transaction advisory role is a viable option, especially if you're open to starting as a first-year analyst again. Many users on WSO have shared similar experiences of transitioning into front-office roles by leveraging networking and applying to open positions.

Here are some key points to consider:

  1. Eligibility: If the roles you're targeting are open to recent graduates or those with limited experience, you should be eligible to apply. Highlighting your current experience in transaction advisory can demonstrate transferable skills.

  2. Networking: Reaching out to alumni, friends, or professionals in the industry is crucial. Many WSO threads emphasize the importance of networking to secure interviews and gain insights into the application process.

  3. Timing: Full-time analyst roles often have specific recruiting timelines. For example, some banks may have positions open in September and October, while others might post openings throughout the year. Keep an eye on job boards and company websites for updates.

  4. Persistence: Even if some positions seem filled, it doesn't hurt to continue networking and applying. As noted in WSO discussions, positions can open unexpectedly, and persistence often pays off.

If you're serious about making the switch, focus on tailoring your resume, preparing for technical interviews, and leveraging your current role to build relevant skills. Good luck!
