Are you guys passionate about what you do?

Those of you that have a job in IB or S&T, are you there because you love it or is it just for the money? I can get pretty into something if I spend a lot of time on it, and I'll end up enjoying myself at least somewhat. That along with the obvious financial perks of a job in S&T or IB is why I'm expecting my career to be in one of those areas.

I'm curious to know if this is the case with most of you guys, or if anyone here is truly passionate about what they're doing everyday.

I have always loved Comp Sci, and I made the decision to major in Finance instead. I'm wondering if anyone here made a similar decision in their undergrad years.

Why is there a thread like this almost every week? I know people in both comp sci and banking who hate and love their lives. From my experience true passion comes down to the person, not what they are doing. Some jobs may lend themselves to more passionate people (and vice versa) but it ultimately comes down to the person.

My true passion is PE. I would LOVE to be involved with the buying a company, improving corporate governance, eradicating staggered board members, instilling a culture of better utilization - better asset utilization, better utilization of people. Then, selling that company to someone else, or going public.

However, IB is necessitated to get there. Do I love following markets? Fuck no. I only do it because I have to (Portoflio Manager for school's investment club). Do I love reading M&A and PE transactions on dealbook? Fuck YES.

The difference between successful people and others is largely a habit - a controlled habit of doing every task better, faster and more efficiently.
