Asked for Early FT Start — Can I Move It Back?

Hey everyone,

Looking for advice from anyone who’s seen this before.

I received a FT return offer in IB with a standard August start. After my internship, I asked HR whether an earlier start (April) would be possible, and they were open to it and made the change within a day.

After some reflection, I’m realizing that starting with the original August cohort might be the better move — both to properly wrap up academic commitments and to start full-time fully recharged rather than rushing into it. Dont want run into the corporate life

Question is:
How bad does it look to go back to HR and ask to revert to August after initially asking for an early start? Has anyone done this successfully, and is this generally viewed as reasonable or as indecisiveness?

For context:

  • Original offer was August
  • This would be a request to move back, not delay past original terms

Appreciate any insight — especially from people who’ve dealt with HR / analyst staffing.

Thanks.
