At this point in the year, what's the best summer opportunity still available?

I had originally enrolled to study abroad and study subjects completely unrelated to finance, but I have been advised that wasting my sophomore summer abroad will be a bad idea when I'm looking for a junior summer internship next fall.

For context, I have a >3.8 GPA majoring in economics at a private target school (Ivy) but my work experience includes only a Senate campaign position and my high school part time job. I am using the WSO resume template and am attending networking events for the next few weeks, but most of them emphasize summer 2020. Yes, I know I didn't approach this correctly but even in hindsight I was more focused on travelling (abroad) than rushing myself into a career.

I assume any work experience at all is more beneficial than studying abroad. Is it more beneficial to work in an "okay" position in finance in NYC versus a stronger analyst position in a smaller city (Charlotte, Atlanta, Boston)?

Any advice?
