"At Will Employment" In Regards to Reneging
Hi all. Recently got an offer for a MM IB on the lower end who gave me less than 3 days to sign (received offer on a Friday and it exploded on Monday). I obviously had to sign as getting another was not guaranteed, but did not stop recruiting and landed another offer from a mid tier BB that I obviously would much rather take.
If the MM IB provided me with the standard 2 weeks that the BB and most other firms give, I wouldn't have even bothered signing with the MM as I got the BB offer 12 days later. Felt pretty predatory by the MM as they gave me a weekend to sign, but while reading both contracts, I noticed each mentioned "at will employment" which essentially means both the company and employee has the right to terminate employment at any time for any reason. I'm wondering if this makes reneging completely okay, as the contract that I signed states I am allowed to terminate this employment whenever I want for any reason.
Would appreciate if y'all could let me know if this is an accurate interpretation of "at will employment" and if I can renege with no consequences.
They would fire you / let you go in two seconds. You have every right to treat them exactly the same in return. Take the better offer.
sick name. I'm 100% taking the offer from the BB, I'm more so wondering if the "at will" contract stipulation makes it so that even if the MM firm finds out they can't retaliate. Have heard bad things about stuff like that on this site
James Bond character lol
Dawg everything is at will, like every job. Both offers can be rescinded if each other find it, but it also could work out
SA or FT?
Yep, just don't post about new offer at all (including when u start for summer) and keep it low key. Can backfire on you but odds are it won't.
yep would agree that don’t post until ur SA is done and return secured. no one will care after that
play it safe
Renege
Echoing comment above just don't update anything and go incognito for a while. have had friends do this no issues
