Bad lateral move
In a sticky situation. Lateraled from NYC MM to another Chicago firm after not getting associate bump and regret my decision. I’ve gotten berated multiple times and I’ve only been here 3-4 months. Curious your thoughts on what I should do? Look for a new firm? I know it’s a bad look but unsure if I can stay here long term.
Sorry to hear that man. I’m also in a similar situation as well where I lateraled several months ago and am regretting my decision given how disorganized my new shop is. Would love to hear people’s advice on this as well
In the same situation here - Have you made any decisions on what you’re going to do?
I heard Disney is upping their associate salaries to $25 usd per hour.
The undergrads expose themselves so easily. Lmk when you get your first internship kid.
Was in the same situation - lateraled upmarket to an EB as senior analyst and had serious issues. Did you get the assoc promo in the new shop? If so, you can start exploring options with a well crafted story at the 6 month mark. If not will be trickier and might have to stick it out for a year.
I think you should throw you resumes out there. Usually, when youre off to a bad start it doesnt end well. Speaking from a personal experience.
Bump
.
wouldnt lateral again to another ib firm given that 3-4 months is very short and there would be lots of questions regarding your departure. i would begin looking at buy side tbh
You need to leave ASAP do not be desperate. The same way you got that job is the same way you’ll get another job. If you stay, you’re risking getting laid off or fired from a VP who hates you. If it’s as toxic as you say you need to leave it says a lot about the firm to do this as so, early on.
Sounds like RayJ
Heard a story once that David Solomon (was then co-head of IB at Bear) was asked why he only stayed at Solomon Bros for 6 months after Drexel blew up... answer was "I knew enough to get out of the wrong place sooner than later...."
if someone asks you in an interview this issue, quote that story..
Recently did the same thing. Ended up leaving before the one year mark. Not sure how this will play out when re-recruiting but felt it was time to leave on my own terms. Sometimes it’s not a good fit, is what it is.
Yeah I ended up leaving and got a role within 2 weeks so it was the right decision. Just wasn’t the right fit for me and I believe I made the right decision.
Pretty impressive you got to move in 2 weeks - how did you end up framing the move? And what was your experience recruiting in a market like this?
