Banks don't care about bonuses (and we can't do anything about it)
Semi-rant. Pretty pissed off at Jef bonuses. Their entire draw is higher comp and after being worked like a dog you do expect to hear that bonus number be higher. I've heard a lot of people across the board say, "well if we were getting comped like this we should've gone to a BB, at least to get the brand value." The truth is, no one is picking Jef over JP, MS, GS.
But all of this is meaningless. My friends at MS and JP were distraught when their bonuses were announced. But it's business as usual now. And it has been business as usual. This isn't the first time any bonus class has been fucked and most of the current An1, An2s have no idea how bonuses have varied over the past decade. This isn't a justification. I'm not one of the boomers telling us to "be happy you're getting comped so fucking well right out of grad." All I'm saying is - this is a business. The bank treats it as such. Our seniors treat it as such. Yes, happy hours, team bonding and commitment to breaking records with your team is all part of the concoction they drill into you so that you keep going for longer - but it is all bull. Work only as hard as you need to and always chase the cheque if you're ready to work ungodly hours.
newsflash companies dont give a single fuck about you unless your position is something that cant be replaced
Think I read on one thread here that Harris Williams kept strong junior bonuses under the reasoning that 'they don't get to share massive bonuses in top years, so we're not make them share the losses in bad ones"
Can't remember the thread I saw that in
To respond to your point though, that's just how capitalism works. No surprise there.
