BB summer Intern lunch and dinner policies

Sorry if this is a very noob question but WSO's search function is broken and google doesn't provide any meaningful results. I'll be starting SA 2022 soon and I'm wondering how meals work for summer interns at BBs? (Specifically at DB/UBS but any BB in general helps too)

Will I have to buy my lunch and dinner myself every day, or do I get a company card for interns with $x limit (it seems $20-30 is the norm for full time bankers)? Or should I make lunch and dinner at my place each morning?

Also if the bank pays for lunches and dinners, are there specific rules about what time interns can order meals and how long interns have to be there to get the meals? None of this stuff was shared with my intern class during pre-summer onboarded so genuinely have no clue how it works. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. Just want to clarify one thing. Interns can turn in receipts for both lunch and dinner for reimbursement or just for dinner purchases after a certain time?

Usually you pay for lunch and they have a dinner policy where if you stay past X time you get a certain amount of money. For interns you usually buy it with your own card and turn in receipts to get reimbursed

Is it weird for an intern to pack lunch? I prefer not to eat out too much, but don't want to stand out. I have a very sensible and plain black lunchbox and like to pack dinner leftovers to change up from sandwiches.

Same position, I think this gets covered during training week (?)

Would hope so, they’ve told my group basically nothing so far lol

do interns usually buy lunch or bring? i dont want to spend hundreds of dollars over the summer just on lunch but also want to socialize haha

Bump same exact situation. Do most ppl buy lunch or bring from home? Are there cafeterias at most banks?

Does everybody normally buy a lunch with everyone else? Where do people go consistently during lunch breaks because wouldn't you have to walk to some random food place?

Lunch is not paid for and most people buy out (think Sweetgreen, Dig, Chipotle, food halls like Urbanspace or Brookfield Place etc). Some people bring lunch, but I would plan to buy your entire first week (good chance to casually chat with coworkers anyway) and scope out the packed lunch situation while you're doing that.

Dinner is comped if you stay after a certain time (7-8pm depending on bank, they will cover in training) you pay for it, keep the receipt, and submit it to your admin and it gets added to your paycheck (reimbursement varies wildly from within a few days to a few months). Same deal with Ubers home after 9-10pm, again depending on bank. No company cards until FT. Know a few banks that have eliminated cards even for FTs and you just continually get reimbursed.

Realistically unless you're getting up at 6:30am it is not feasible to make lunch every day unless it's a quick deli meat sandwich. Maybe aim to cook a meal prep Sundays and bring lunch M-W but you're going to be hard pressed to find serious meal prep time in IB. As an intern you should expect to eat most of your dinners in the office - and likely not going to be making a full home cooked meal for dinner every night even if your bank allows you to go home around dinner.

Funniest

Fellas, just go with the fucking flow. It’s lunch not rocket science. I’m sure we’ll all be fine lol

Just curious, for the banks that give out daily allowances for food daily - are you able to use it on the weekend or a public holiday too?
