Career Resources
Would be surprised if anyone down the road faulted you for taking the opportunity to join a firm like the 3 you mentioned, regardless of the additional job security factor at play. Sounds like you’re making the right choice for multiple reasons.
You're at a BB that everyone knows has been struggling recently. If anyone asks you why you left in the future, it's pretty easy to explain this bank's situation at that time. If someone does ask though, also know how to answer a potential follow-up like why you joined that firm in the first place.
You need to call the EB and accept the offer first thing on Monday morning.
Would you guys rank Guggenheim the same EB tier? They get shitted on by WSO a lot.
a frightening majority of WSO users are dipshit kids who will never work in banking
I would take Guggenheim over a lower BB like UBS. Kind of an in between an EB. Exits are solid MM PE, and the occasional UMM. Pay is above street, culture seems cool. Better opportunities if you're in healthcare or TMT though. Not quite at par with the other EBs though, but getting there.
Guggenheim is better than barclays, ubs, and db hands down. Maybe wso highschoolers will disagree.
Don't mean to hijack your thread topic, but how did you go about getting this offer from the EB? What was your interview like as a lateral hire?
Will be SA at a mid-tier bank in 2020 (BAML/Citi/CS) and am thinking about recruiting for EB FT or during A1 at the BB.
Headhunter approached me (but a contact recommended me without my knowledge). Interview was far easier since having BB experience and getting a return offer provides a lower bound of how dumb you can be. Mostly fit oriented.
Is it the same city or a different city? I'm in SF/Chi/Houston and am thinking of making the move to NY. I'm wondering if I will be able to upgrade both bank and location or will have to make a lateral move to be in NY.
It's hard to transition both bank and location at the same time. My initial plan was to transfer from a regional office into NYC within the BB, but that would mean waiting >1 year (and missing PE on-cycle). It depends on how well you can network.
