There was a guy at our high school who was the classic overachiever in every academic sense (top-ranked in elite HS, and goes to target school). They told me they were applying to the same BB as myself and I was like damn must be a safety option for him. Only to find out he didn't get an offer...I think moral of the story was that he was a legit robot in terms of no one actually wanted to have a conversation with him outside of work or school. Its funny because he is a third-year at a target school and still has a 4.0 with buy-side experience. Obviously he will be successful at what he does, just funny that he didn't land a low tier BB position.

not necessarily the best, but one with the most opportunities. My friend's dad is a senior MD at a top tier BB, and my friend has a pretty solid experience (even though he is from a non-target). My friend's been through 7+ superdays at all types of banks over the past 6-9 months and he's yet to land interviews. I know his dad was really helpful cuz he helped me land an interview, too. I didn't end up at that bank but I got an offer on my 3rd superday. Kinda sad seeing him not land anything up until now.

Alum at my school: non-target, non-diversity, and international. Guy had 3.9 GPA back then, boutique IB internship freshman year, reputable PE internship 2nd year. 0 interviews for junior SA (EB/BB/MM IBD). Still turned around in FT recruiting into top bank (GS/MS/JPM) though.
