Best networking question ever?

Answering networking calls in your professional experience, was there ever a question that stood out? Something unique that a prospective IBer asked you that sparked a conversation, or a question you just simply liked and thought was insightful.

This question is also posed to students. As a student, is there anything you ever asked that sparked an interesting conversation?

idk if this is good for networking but these are good ways to get to know someone

  1. you can be anywhere in the world, any time in history, doing anything. where are you and what're you doing
  2. you get to pick 3 people to have dinner with, past or present, who's at the table and why
  3. where are you from, what was it like growing up there, and what kinds of things do you remember about your hometown
  4. how'd you get to where you are today, starting with high school

just for fun

  1. fuck marry kill - lael brainard, janet yellen, christine lagarde
  2. favorite dead baby joke
  3. go to guys' trip story
  4. last illegal drug you did
  5. what do you think happens after we die
  6. what's worse - beer shits or hot wing diarrhea
  7. what do you think about when you're waiting for her to climax to distract yourself from arriving early
  8. what's most likely - jesus was black, this is a simulation, karma is real

LOL.

'#4. Have you ever done LSD? If so, how do you think it has played a role in your career (if any) and how did you leverage that experience for breaking into IB?

If talking to an alum, I always ask if there were opportunities on campus that they missed out on and things they wish they tried while still a student, and then i turn it into asking advice for my remaining time on campus. Without fail they love it

you want to emphasize building a connection right off the bat.

I’ve had the most success with “how much money did you make this year?” or “what kinda car do you drive?”
