Bit early. Found the place for my SA stint a couple months before it started but probably better to do it sooner. Check NYU / other NYC school summer housing (fills up fast so find out when the app opens and hop on it if that's what you want). Any sublet in Manhattan with good subway access is also good. Lotta people get good deals but even more get shafted -- try not to get ripped off.
I'd do NYU Law as well. You are pretty much guaranteed a single (or three room double) and it was only 2k a month.
I used Craigslist starting in April and was able to find a place no problem within a reasonable budget. You have to be glued to your screen during your search and it'll feel like a part time job so allot time accordingly.
I just interned this past summer and used NYU dorms. It isn’t glamorous but it gets the job done and makes for an easy commute. I was in Second Street and had a studio so it was perfect. I was also in east village so great spot for bars and social scene in the city. Price wasn’t too bad I think I paid $5k all in.

NYU dorms. I had an awesome experience this past summer, highly recommend. It was ~$1,900 a month with the meal plan so not awful in NYC.
Fordham Lincoln Center at Columbus circle, double room suite was 2.8k for the entire summer pretty cheap. A/C is included

EHS-FiDi at Pace University. Very nice building and offer single rooms. Bit more expensive but I enjoyed the neighborhood.
