Better use of time - retaking CFA or networking for a lateral move

I failed CFA level 1 in June and want to get people's opinions on what would now be a better use of time. I work in a MM European bank in LevFin on an analyst programme. Do you think the time spent studying for the retake in December would be better dedicated to networking / interview prep for a move to a bigger bank (aiming for BB thinking for exit opps 2 years from now). Or is a move to a BB not likely at the analyst level?

The CFA never hurts, but most people start taking the initial exams so that you can break into finance.

You have already broken into finance. Words from my (kinda sorta mentor): "Once you have that first banker job, then you're a banker".

Focus on networking. I would NOT expect a lateral to a large firm to happen now because European banks are a disaster right now, with some economists even calling to nationalize DB. You need to play the long game. Have some friends at these larger firms so that when these firms need people or post a job offer you can call them up and get over to that firm the next day.
