Boutique IB vs Masters

Current junior at a non target and IB recruiting hasn't really been successful on my end. Was weighing my options and the most logical routes would be either working at a boutique IB and then possibly lateraling or getting a masters in finance (probably in Europe) and trying get a BB or EB offer. Working straight away would be a lot more cost effective but I imagine it's incredibly hard to lateral from a boutique to a BB/EB and adding a brand name to my non target profile could only help.

Some boutiques are solid. It really depends on what you can land. The Masters would only be useful at a top 5 program with consistent placement

I think the key question is how hard would a lateral from a boutique to BB/EB be-seems to be pretty difficult but haven't really looked too much into it  And yeah, no point in going half way across the world and spending that much money to not get good results.

It's definitely possible to lateral. It just depends on how you utilize your network, whether or not you're willing to start over, and where you're coming from. You'll have better luck after the analyst position ends.

Lateraling really isn't that difficult so long as you put an effort into networking. As someone who lateraled in from a valuation firm the biggest knock against me was that I didn't have any IB experience. Getting into IB is obviously difficult but once you have your foot in the door moving around within the industry becomes much easier.

Makes sense but wouldn't the competition for spots be really high, considering the very few spots open? I know FT recruiting is insanely chaotic and was wondering if lateraling is similar in that sense.
