Boutique IB vs Tier 2 Consulting

Hi All,

I have been working at a big 4 consulting firm in the FDD deal practice. I have secured an offer at a boutique IB shop which has a pretty good reputation in the field they specialize in (FIG). The Bank also has a decent consulting practice which I would be a generalist between the two. I already have a series 7 and 66 so I do have to take my 79. I was wondering if I could have some fellow monkeys prospectives on exit ops from a small boutique IB shop. I have an MBA and I did a PE internship during grad school.

Other relevant details:

IB shop is outside of NYC but about a 40 ish minute ride away from NYC (it doesn’t bother me not being in NYC) Consulting firm I’m at now is in NYC Consulting firm has a rotation I’m currently doing that would allow me to switch to strategy but the placement is not guaranteed.

What did you do pre-mba? If you want to do banking it could be a good opportunity to get your foot in the door. On the flip side, you could also keep networking and try to get into a more reputable shop in NYC if that's of interest.

IMO, It seems like you're interested in PE via the MBA internship so idk if it's really worth it to be in Big 4 unless you're in Parthenon, Strategy &, etc. How long have you bene in FDD?

I think you have spent enough time in consulting to speak intelligently about it. I'd network to get into NYC / more reputable bank. You have the skillset, just gotta find the opportunity!
