Breaking into Investment Banking without Clubs
Hello everyone, I just wanted to know if anyone broke into Investment Banking from either a non-target school or a target school that was not involved in any clubs. The clubs I'm referencing are the pre-professional, highly competitive finance/business clubs that schools offer.
Yes I did. My school's clubs were shit and full of big 4 accountants.
Can you tell me what your strategy is?
Network and building my resume to a respectable level. Its tough as a non-target so started from search fund and worked my way up to an eventual EB FT placement.
I got offers last cycle from non-target, no clubs
What was your main strategy?
Stacked resume with 5 internships, mostly local boutiques. Also networked a shit ton.
The main strategy is obviously going to be a shitload of networking to offset you not getting your resume seen from target club resume drops. If you get a somewhat decent SA, it becomes alot easier to "snowball" like the other commenter said in terms of FT recruiting or other opps. Came from target with a ton of competition and MM SA and got FT interviews at BB/EB/MF non PE without being in the clubs.
