Calculating SA overtime pay?
In my offer letter, I am given a prorated salary for the summer. It then states I am a non-exempt employee who is subject to 1.5x overtime after 40 hours worked. How would I calculate this based off a 110k prorated salary for the summer? I’m in CA btw if that helps.
You sure it's not 0.5x?
he's in California... they have had 1.5x laws for years
Divide $110k by 2080 to get your hourly. Also OT is calculated daily in CA for every hour over 8 in a day.
Why 2080?
Divide by 52 weeks and then again by 40 hours. = 2080
This is easy to set up on Excel. You can play with the hours you plug in. As mentioned above, CA does daily calcs but you can get a rough idea without building out a whole model for that.
Base: 110k/52 weeks * 10 = $21.2k
Overtime salary rate: 110k/52 weeks/40 hours * 1.5 = $79.32
~20 OT hours worked * hourly rate * 10 weeks (conservative average accounting for training week and slower environment) = $15,864
Total: $37k
Wouldn’t the overtime salary rate be 1.5x the $52/hr?
