Can you day trade stocks or forex while working in IB as a SA?
I day trade stocks and I'm wondering if it would be possible to still trade while working as an SA. I'm assuming the answer is no but wondering if there is some hope. Also wondering if it is possible to trade forex as a SA in IB. Thanks.
SEC OPEN UP
Not at all
Not even forex?
You'll probably be allowed to do forex, but don't make it a habit. One thing I've learned at a few places is, compliance gets bored and looks for stuff to do. For example, I wouldn't put it past a compliance person to mention in passing to your boss that "this guy isn't breaking any rules but he does a lot of forex trading." They're busybodies.
Wow, you guys really want to trade and have the potential to lose it all just for tat one stupid $1000 investment in Amazon
I don’t like you, but you have a point.
I don't like myself either but thanks!
At my firm there is a 30 day holding period, so unfortunately no. Also- just as a pointer- some people have weird reactions to these questions-not sure why I think its just because they don't have an appreciation for it. You'll be surprised how little some people in IBD know about investing. I've had discussions with Associates and above who know no better than putting money into mutual funds/leveraged ETFs that they don't understand.
Just letting you know that because I wouldnt want you to be surprised to be met with a weird face when you ask some people at your firm about this- I took some heat for suggesting some people to trade options- from their reactions you would have thought I told them to rob an old lady lmao
Do you know how risky puts and calls are? Stock market is so unpredictable you can be burned in seconds. Make sure you are aactually investing weisely and not just gambling, brownfield.....
I'm more aware than you might imagine. I never assume the education level or abilities of others before I meet them... Richard.
I hope you do the same. I have made a lot of great, well thought out investments and have made handsome returns through slowly investing. I dont normally use options unless Im generating income (which is deemed a non-speculative trade given the collateral I put up).
Anyway, I encourage everyone to educate themselves on investing responsibly. Furthermore, I think day trading should be discouraged given that your full time job is a banker not a trader.
Ask your compliance department, but I’m sure the answer is no to stocks. Forex I have no idea as I have never met anyone in finance who actually trades that in their personal account haha.
NEXT QUESTION
What about BTC?
Records show that you've been trading dollar-denominated stocks on your account while also working closely with american companies in your investment banking career. Are you trying to manipulate the US market by increasing business so that your stock holdings will appreciate? I must remember you that you are under oath.
You can trade stocks at my BB, but there is a mandatory 30 day holding period.
Did you go to NYU and are you the head of one of NYU's student clubs?
Bill Tsai and the SEC Guy
ok thanks a lot!
I prefer investing in Stocks because this is more reliable and profitable, but there's many risks and difficulties. Nevertheless, I still think that it is best to invest in stocks because the foreign exchange market is very unstable and everyone sees it. You can see what is happening with the rate If I worked on the Forex market, I would have lost 20,000 + bucks and this is just a huge amount. In my opinion, the risks in trading stocks are much less. At https://fondex.com</a">fondex.com there is a very convenient system for working with stocks of various companies and over the last month I made over $ 50,000 from investing in netflix and tesla stocks!
