Can you get rehired by a BB that fired you?

Fired you 5 years ago from the BB's IB part. Let's say it was a non-performance related issue such as failing to get approval from compliance for something (having an affair, joining a board of a company, writing a book). If I was to interview with them, would HR/compliance ding me even if I get along with the MD of the team (this will be a new team at the same BB but different location)? Since then attended a top school for masters and worked in a couple of non-IB industries. I am job-hunting intensely, and wondering if i can tap that old employer.

Hahah, GTFO here. Why did you shag someone from the office?

I don't know... Yeah. Almost definitely yes.

i'm not aware of any official policy towards this...but if anybody in the hiring process remembers you....i would expect this to be an automatic ding...unless the MD that is hiring you specifically goes to bat for you. There will be a red flag in your HR file...so you should have a direct and discrete convo with the business line MD, and get in front of this. Also, i would suggest looking to other firms first...as this seems like a long shot.

Thanks for your response. Well, I will have to tick the box when asked have I ever worked there. Plus, it’s also on my resume. I guess I have two really main questions: 1) is it advisable to ask my contact (MD) if he can bring me into his team. As I mentioned, I’ve a good relationship with him (pls read my prior post). But I don’t want to make things awkward or come across as the person who can’t read between the lines (“dude you were fired from here. Go away”). And 2) if the MD is ok with pushing my resume down to the staffers and assuming I get the offer, can HR rescind my offer because of what happened in the past. Thanks
